Tangerines are a ballsy South London quartet mixing up late seventies’ chugging guitars with the sound of Pittsburgh circa 1966.
They first emerged from frontman Gareth Hoskins’ parents’ shed around a year ago with enough swagger to give the Fat White Family a run for their money.
With shades of Berlin-era Lou Reed tinting their sound, and Gareth’s drawling rock ‘n’ roll repartee, they come across like a jaded Velvet Underground jamming with the master of arch, Willy Deville.
Skin Dives, their debut track on SoundCloud, showed vociferous promise when it appeared at the end of 2015, and marked their cards as an exciting new indie-rock proposition.
With their hotly-anticipated first live show of the year coming up at Servant Jazz Quarters, London, on 17 March, and a coveted slot on the Field Day line-up on 12 June, it looks like 2016 might be the year of the Tangerines.
We spent 30 seconds with them to find out what’s going down in the shed…
We first started making music because…
The devil made us.
We have been making music since…
Late 2014.
Our music is…
Orgasmic and for anyone that just wants to let loose.
You'll like our music if you listen to...
Television, Kevin Ayers, Dr Feelgood, Mink Deville, Vibrators, Eddie Noack, Chris Spedding, Velvet Underground.
Our favourite venue is…
Usually always in South London.
Music is important because…
Everybody needs it.
Our biggest inspiration is…
Ourselves and anyone that comes away from our shows feeling buzzed.
Our dream collaboration would be…
Playing with our future selves, and perhaps Lou Reed in the corner hitting some bongos.
To try us out, listen to our song…
Skin Dives.
If we weren’t making music we’d be…
Just another cog in the machine! Woo!
In 10 years’ time we want to be…
Alive. And dealing drugs to kids.
