Electronic heartbreak envelopes the musical world of Tamu Massif, a singer songwriter making moving downbeats.
Tamu is the solo recording project of Weston-super-Mare dwelling Dave Dixon, an artist who has been turning ears since last year’s debut EP, Alba, landed. It received support from BBC Radio 1, Introducing and 6 Music and led to support slots with C Duncan and the Japanese House.
His latest track, OK, is taken from a new EP due for release later in the year and shows Tamu charting the deterioration of a friendship via downbeat bass and pitch-shifting vocals. We get to know
I first started writing music because…
I learnt a few chords on the guitar and put some words to them. I haven't really stopped since.
I have been making music since…
My first time making music was on some really old Ibiza DJ program on my parent's computer at around 9 years of age. It was fun and required very little skill.
My music is…
A mix of all the stuff I like. I love playing guitar and layering vocals, but combining that with more electronic ambient noises and samples and beats.
You'll like my music if you listen to...
It enough.
My favourite venue is…
The Woodspring Stadium, Weston-super-Mare.
Music is important because…
It's so expressive.
My biggest inspiration is…
My mum.
My dream collaboration would be…
John Frusciante or Kanye West. Or – both?
To try me out, listen to my song…
OK.
If I wasn’t making music I’d be…
Living abroad - driving a truck across Europe or something. Living out some Wes Anderson fantasy somewhere.
In 10 years’ time I want to be…
Alive and well and I hope the same for everyone (I know).
