Disclosure, Jessie Ware and Julio Bashmore are three of the biggest stars of the last two years to be born out of UK’s bubbling dance music scene. What do all three have in common? Other than a uniquely British, soulful take on organic electronica, they're all label mates with one time grime prodigy, T. Williams.
Tesfa Williams has been a long time in the game. Now in his late twenties, he started burrowing his head in his a home studio as a fresh faced teen, making an initial name for himself as grime producer Dread.D. After changing names, he forged his love for jungle and d&b with a new found devotion to the 4X4 wobble of upfront house music.
He released a number of underground hits on the likes of Local Action, Deep Teknologi before signing a deal with PMR in 2012. The imprint is also home to Jessie Ware, L-Vis 1990 and Disclosure and proved to be an astute move from the producer. He’s since hooked up with Rinse FM (releasing a mix CD for the label/broadcaster) and now includes Breach, Rudimental and Maya Jane Coles among his remix scalps.
His EPs Pain and Love and Feelings Within have done much to further his reputation through UK clubs and beyond while he’s recently toured as support DJ for Disclosure. He’s also among Radio 1’s latest batch of In New Music We Trust DJs. Check out our 30 Seconds interview with a producer on the up and up...
I first started writing music because…
It was something fun to do.
I have been making music since…
I was 12.
My music is…
A combination of all my influences from grime and jungle through to garage etc so in a nutshell dance music.
You'll like my music if you listen to…
The likes of Disclosure, Julio Bashmore, Breach, Claude VonStroke.
My favourite venue is…
Warehouse Project, Manchester.
Music is important because…
It's a creative way to express yourself.
My biggest inspiration is…
My dad!
My dream collaboration would be…
With Brandy.
To try me out, listen to my song…
Think Of You ft Tendai.
If I wasn't making music I'd be…
Teaching music technology.
In 10 years time I want to be…
Still making music.
