Chanelle Calica, aka Shystie, is a 27-year-old rapper from Hackney who now counts Azealia Banks, 50 Cent, Basement Jaxx and Mike Skinner among her friends.
Earning the moniker ‘grime princess’ through her work on Dizzee Rascal's debut single I Luv U, she’s since gone on to tour with The Streets and Basement Jaxx.
She’s spent the last nine years honing her MC style and building up a cannon of tracks that document life in modern Britain and her preoccupation with money, sex and love. Meanwhile, a string of well-received mix tapes and viral videos last year were downloaded more than 40,000 times and helped prick ears on both sides of the Atlantic.
This led to her latest collaboration Control It, which features Azealia Banks on vocal duties and was released this week on the Pink Mist EP.
Shystie also flirts with the fashion world; she featured in Vogue magazine in 2011 and 2013 after modeling for Nazir Mahzar for London fashion week. She’s also modeled for sunglasses designer Stevie Boi and acted in the UK film Adulthood.
