Semi Precious is the moniker of experimental south London producer and singer Guy Baron.

The sonic architect and Goldsmiths alumni began Semi Precious as a ‘bedroom pop’ degree project that quickly graduated into a fully-fledged musical concept.

Over the last couple of years, Guy has perfected his glitchy electronics and soulful vocals to spawn an arresting late-night soundtrack which ebbs and flows with fragments of found sound and broken beats.

Echoing the understated poise of Airhead or Cloud Boat, he isolates the main components of music-making to celebrate minimal expression.

As well as producing his own music, Guy is co-founder of the eclectic Squareglass label, which is home to kindred spirits Bunki, Ballerino, Daniel Cherney, Leiik and Junk.

His latest Matthew Herbert-produced EP When We Talk is out now on NX Records. Don’t miss it.

I have been making music since…
Been playing and singing from a relatively young age but only started producing my own tracks in my early 20s.

My music is…
Relatively minimal, kind of intimate but also somewhat estranged.

You'll like me if you listen to…
My collective mates Bunki and Ballerino.

My favourite venue is…
Probably KOKO.

Music is important because…
It allows us to be dreamers.

My biggest inspiration is…
Probably Matthew Herbert.

My dream collaboration would be…
Burial.

To try me out, listen to my song…
When We Talk, the title track from my new EP.

If I wasn’t making music I’d be…
An aspiring architect.

In 10 years’ time I want to be…
Making music.
