If you love leftfield, woozy pop, then the production skills of London-based, Newcastle native Sakima could just do it for you.
This talented 23 year-old is steadily accumulating an ever expanding online fan base, touching base with DJs and tastemakers such as Ryan Hemsworth and Cyril Hahn. It’s a mixture of strong songwriting skills and deep, heart string tugging production which is at the heart of his appeal, as debut single Energy demonstrates.
This self-taught pianist from the age of nine wrote Energy last summer when he first moved to London. The track’s dark ambience captures those initial feelings of loneliness in the capital and caught the ears of producer Jakwob. He loved it so much he’s released it via his Boom Ting Recordings label. Get to know…
I first started writing music because…
It came naturally to me, more so than maths, science or English ever did.
I have been making music since…
I was nine years of age.
My music is…
At its core leftfield pop, with future garage and r'n'b vibes mixed in.
You'll like my music if you listen to...
James Blake, SOHN, Jamie Woon
My favourite venue is…
Currently in love with the Bussey Building in Peckham.
Music is important because…
It allows people to escape to wherever they want to go.
My biggest inspiration is…
Currently Banks.
My dream collaboration would be…
Banks. Obvs.
To try me out, listen to my song…
Energy, out now with Boom Ting Recordings.
If I wasn’t making music I’d be…
In a hole.
In 10 years time I want to be...
Making music on a huge platform, performing unique one off live gigs in beautiful places.
