Armed with a brand new album and UK tour, London four-piece The Rifles have returned with fire in their belly and jingle-jangle in their hearts.

Their trademark mod sound – first glimpsed on 2006 debut No Love Lost – is still in force on their brand new set, but this time they’re showing off their taste for Americana and good old fashioned rockabilly too.

None the Wiser jangles its way from The Byrds-esque breeziness of The Hardest Place to Find Me to the angular twitch and big choruses of Minute Mile - and is bound to please devout fans of the solid quartet.

Ploughing a straight furrow from British indie circa the mid-noughties to now, Joel Stoker (vocals, guitar), Lucas Crowther (guitar, vocals), Robert Pyne (drums) and Grant Marsh (bass) have only stopped to hone their sound and tighten their songwriting know-how.

We caught up with Lucas to hear about the early days and find out what keeps them going…

We first started writing music because…
I just wanted to be part of something inspiring to give that feeling to other people that we got from listening to music also I made a really bad postman nobody got there letters in time!

We have been making music since…
The late nineties - we have been through a mill or two.

Our music is…
Relatable from the very young to the very old.

You'll like us if...
You listen to music with your ears and with your heart.

Our favourite venue is…
The Kentish town Forum.

Music is important because…
It's a universal language that connects us all. And when it hits you, you feel no pain.

Our biggest inspiration is…
People who work from the heart with no ego, just a passion, to share their talent honestly.

Our dream collaboration would be…
I don't really have a massive want to collaborate at the moment, but sitting in on a Beatles rehearsal would be cool.

To try us out, listen to our song…
You Win Some – our new single.

If we weren’t making music we’d be
In trouble.

None the Wiser was released on 20 January through Cooking Vinyl.
