The gloriously named Ratcatcher kicked off his musical career as one as half of Birmingham clubnight’s, Bigger Than Barry residents, Chesus and Rodski.
According to his biog, this Welsh producer and DJ weened himself on everything from the music of Andrew Weatheall to the work of Irvine Welsh and Ronnie O’Sullivan as well as spending time flitting between Cardiff and Berlin. These myriad influences have all fed into his electronic, house leaning productions.
Formerly of UK garage crew C.R.S.T, and earmarked by XLR8R as an artist to look out for in 2014, Ratcatcher has released a steady stream of remixes, collaborations and original tracks on well-respected labels such as Catapult and Numbers.
Last year’s collaboration with Doc Daneeka, the massive Walk On In was released in November and was one of the biggest underground smashes of 2013.
It all bodes well for 2014, with Ratcatcher gaining the number two spot in XLR8R’s prestigious top 100 tracks of 2013 and gearing up for more dancefloor action with the release of the forthcoming Somehow via Brooklyn’s Peach label. We caught up with Ratcatcher for 30 seconds…
I first started writing music because…
It looked fun.
I have been making music since…
I was about 12.
My music is…
The best music ever produced by anyone.
You'll like my music if you listen to...
Kerri Chandler maybe?
My favourite venue is…
Backrooms Cardiff R.I.P.
Music is important because…
It's a way of life.
My biggest inspiration is…
Different every half hour.
My dream collaboration would be…
Prince.
To try me out, listen to my song…
Somehow.
If I wasn’t making music I’d be…
A pool hustler.
In 10 years time I want to be...
Rich as fuck.....
