Rainer

Rainer is Rebekah Raa and producer Casually Here who met through a shared set of buddies, a love of a late night and a good excuse to get lost in hip hop videos on Youtube. From their forthcoming single Girls/Money, it’s obviously a bond they’ve effectively transferred to musical realms with their rather fine take on r’n’b infused electronic pop. Check them live at London’s Birthdays on 9 September or at the Dummy Magazine AGM on the 29 to hear what all the fuss is about...

Rainer is Rebekah Raa and producer Casually Here, a pair who connected via mutual friends, a love of a late night and a shared fondness for losing themselves in hip hop videos on YoutTube.

Girls/Money is their forthcoming double A side single on ASL Records and is indicative of a great friendship which translates into a canny musical partnership.

Girls manages to blend sass with melancholy over a lo-fi rhythm which shows they are cultivating their own corner in the (left)field of electronic pop. Money is a more smoky r’n’b indebted pop affair, yet no less intriguing.

Rebekah believes the song captures the tension between working to fund your creative passions: ‘I'm trying to highlight this weird contract you make with yourself to spend your life doing something which makes you miserable to buy the freedom to do something you love. The effort/reward disparity can seem a bit screwed up sometimes.’

Intrigued? If you’re in London then you can catch them live at Birthdays on 9 September in Dalston to launch their single.

Failing that, you can witness their live showing at the Dummy Magazine AGM at London Fields Brewery on 29 September.

They’ll be performing alongside the likes of Tirzah ft Micachu, Brolin and Larry Gus which is indicative of both the company and scene they keep. Find out who their dream collaborators would be below…

We first started writing music because…
We had a mutual respect for each other’s work and were excited about what we could both bring to a project together.

We have been making music since…
2011.

Our music is…
Personal, sad and haunting at times while joyfully exuberant at others.

You'll like our music if you listen to...
Contemporary electronic pop with female vocals.

Our favourite venue is…
La Fleche d’Or in Paris.

Music is important because…
It’s really good for your brain.

Our biggest inspiration is…

The view of the apparently finished top of The Shard from our studio window, and the feeling that if that is considered finished then we can definitely do better.

Our dream collaboration would be…
David Byrne/Jon Hopkins/Drake/Kanye West/Joe Goddard/R Kelly.

To try us out, listen to our song…
Girls.

If we weren’t making music we’d be…
Making a lot more money.

In 10 years time we want to be...
Producing records, writing songs and scoring films. Making a living out of doing what we love the most and getting to share that with people.
