Art-rock, post punk - whatever you want to call it, Leeds four-piece Post War Glamour Girls started playing it via messy house parties and make-shift venues across the city back in 2011.
The band rapidly picked up a following, their mix of Birthday Party-esque musical angles, intelligent lyrics and love of abrasive chaos endearing them to many. Debut album Pink Fur picked up plenty of plaudits and saw the band bowling over crowds at an array of festivals including Beacons, Leeds and Tramlines.
The group also hooked up with the Too Pure label for a limited edition double-A side single that saw them snapped up as Steve Lamacq’s BBC 6Music ‘Band of The Week’ and further cemented their appeal.
Felonous Punk is the first fruits of their latest endeavours, a broken, dirty stomp uncovering deeper layers of ideas and darkness. A second EP is promised in September while their second album proper Feeling Strange will follow in October. In a world where Foals can be huge, it’d be a crying shame if these glamour girls couldn’t achieve the same…
We first started writing music because…
Of hopes and dreams.
We have been making music since…
2011.
Our music is…
Our music, but you can have it if you like.
You'll like our music if you listen to...
The Pixies, Talking Heads, The Smiths, The Fall, CAN, Talk Talk, Roxy Music, The Birthday Party etc. etc.
Our favourite venue is…
The Brudenell Social Club in Leeds.
Music is important because…
Music is important because it isn't important. It is both a necessity and a luxury. We should be eternally grateful to Chuck Berry for inventing 'music'.
Our biggest inspiration is…
The unknown.
Our dream collaboration would be…
Scoring a Werner Herzog documentary with Gil Scott Heron and Patti Smith narrating.
To try us out, listen to my song…
FELONIOUS PUNK.
If we weren’t making music we’d be…
Making flat pack furniture.
In 10 years’ time we want to be...
Making babies.
