Par-Le are Miles James and Alex Bonfanti, a pair of accomplished musicians looking to the classic funk and boogie of late seventies and early eighties for their props.

While they’re best known as backing musicians for the likes of Jessie Ware, Neneh Cherry and Michael Kiwanuka, they're now rising to the fore on their own songwriting steam, particularly after the latter signed them to his Movement Records.

The imprint’s ethos is to be a platform for new artists ploughing an organic, soul-rooted musical furrow, with all releases recorded at Movement Records studio in North London.

Par-Le use their The Light Years EP to pay homage to their affection for producers of the past era such as Quincy Jones and Leon Sylvers III, but with added contemporary sheen. It’s serene, soulful, features the talents of friends and vocalists Ade Omotayo and Nadine Charles and acts as a great intro to a pair of ace musicians. You can file their sound somewhere near Leon Bridges and label boss Kiwanuka - Get to know them below…

We have been making music since…
2008.

Our music is…
New boogie/funk/soul.

You'll like our music if you listen to...
Soul music, past and present.

Our favourite venue is…
1st Avenue Minneapolis.

Music is important because…
It's unique among all other forms of expression and communication in its ability to bring out deep emotions and unite people.

Our biggest inspiration is…
Largely funk and soul music. Sly & The Family Stone, Parliament/Funkadelic.

Our dream collaboration would be...
Leon Sylvers III/Jam n Lewis.

To try us out, listen to our song…
Kamden Town.

If we weren’t making music we’d be…
Miles: a chef, traveller/explorer
Andrew: involved in film in some way, and still travelling the world!

In 10 years’ time we want to be...
Still writing, recording and producing music, but hopefully in exotic, far Asian analogue studios!
