The 20 year old Melé, known as Krissy Peers, makes tough, energetic dance music. If you want to track down his sonics, you're best off looking for his work somewhere near the interface of hip hop, UK grime and the fiercer, more bass heavy end of techno. Although it's so loud and brash, it's hard to miss...
Melé may be disgustingly young but he’s made an indelible impression on the soundsystems, dances and raves of the UK he's already roughed up. His heavyweight productions have emerged as records on the likes of Diplo’s Mad Decent label, DJ Sinden’s Grizzly as well as collaborations, most notably with British rapper Kano on his upfront belter Beamer.
Other remixes, particularly for British rapper Wretch 32 and fellow emerging electronic producers Disclosure, as well as his own Starlight EP have pushed his music even further forward. When he’s not playing out himself, you’ll be able to hear his handiwork in the sets of many of British dance music’s finest - Annie Mac, Toddla T, Rustie and Hudson Mohawke are all fans.
M spent 30 Seconds with Melé to find out who’d he love to work with and where he goes to for his musical inspiration…
I first started writing music because…
I wanted to be Mike Skinner
I have been making music since…
I was about 13, so about eight years now!
My music is…
Fun (I hope)
You'll like my sound if you listen to...
Grime
My favourite venue is…
Koko in Camden, London. Its the best!
Music is important because…
People couldn’t live without it
My biggest inspiration is…
The Neptunes
My dream collaboration would be…
Jadakiss
To try me out, listen to my song…
Wretch 32 - Pop (Melé Remix)
If I wasn’t making music I’d be…
Probably working in Asda
In 10 years time I want to be...
Still travelling, Djing and making music
