Matadors is the monikor of a solo Mancunian noisenik who’s keen on keeping his profile low and our expectations high.

With just one release to his name so far, Trumpet of Conscience on RIP Records, there’s not a lot to go by.

If we’re going to judge a book by its cover, this chap is a musical polymath riffing on the old-time high jinks of Buffalo Springfield, Arthur Lee and The 13th Floor Elevators.

To find out more about where his shape-shifting glam-pysch originates, we grabbed 30 seconds with him… but we’re still none the wiser!

I first started making music because…
My mother bought me an electric guitar and a copy of the Love album Forever Changes when I was 15. Love was her favourite band.

I have been making music since…
About the age of 18.

My music is…
Eclectic.

You'll like my music if you listen to...
Old records.

My favourite venue is…
Albert Hall, Manchester.

Music is important because…
It’s good for the soul.

My biggest inspiration is…
Joe Strummer.

My dream collaboration would be…
David Brent.

To try me out, listen to my song…
Trumpet of Conscience.

If I wasn’t making music I’d be…
Much richer.

In 10 years’ time I want to be…
Smiling.
