Glasgow folky songwriter Mark McGowan maybe from Scotland but his music recalls the heady times of Greenwich Village’s folk scene in the early sixties.

It’s this classic songwriting timbre that reverberates through his music. Mark’s ability to cut up the best bits of soul and blues is what powers his acoustic songs, with his husky, timeless voice adding an extra layer. Already a cult figure in Glasgow’s singer songwriter community, his releases to date - the ace Bonnie & Clyde and recent Fugazi EP, all hint at a burgeoning talent who deserves a moment in the spotlight. We get to know Mark in our 30 seconds…

I started writing music because…
I loved songs so much. No specific genre, I've just always been obsessed with song, I find one song and I’ll listen to until I can't anymore. So songwriting came quite naturally.

I have been making music since…
I first picked up guitar at the age of 20.

My music is…
To try and be concise, I like to think of my music a folk guitar with a soul vocal.

You'll like my music if…
You're a fan of singer/songwriters-Damien Rice, Fionn Regan, Tallest man on Earth.

My favourite venue is…
The Hug n Pint in Glasgow, it's intimate and frequented by a great crowd. It's perfect

Music is important because…
It's the most enjoyable form of communication. Why say something you can sing?

My biggest inspiration is…
Fionn Regan.

My dream collaboration would be…
Otis Redding. For no other reason than to get to hear him sing live in the same room.

To try me out, listen to my song…
Fugazi.

If I wasn't making music, I'd be…
Phoning in sick to some call centre job to sit in the house n try to make music

In 10 years’ time I want to…
Have been on Jools Holland at least once. That'll do me!

Mark McGowan’s Fugazi EP is out now.
