Scottish producer Lord of the Isles, aka Neil McDonald uses the wilds of his Highlands home to inform his cinematic, sci-fi infused take on acid house.

His emergence has been slow but steady but with Neil quality is valued higher than quantity. A string of releases for discerning labels including Los Angeles’ Adult Contemporary, Japan’s Ene Records and the much-loved Permanent Vacation. His music, which takes in deep disco, druggy chuggers and Planet E-esque techno, has gained him fans in the form of DJ Harvey and Weatherall, who have fallen for his winning way with a production.

Neil’s forthcoming Clearness Of Love EP picks up where last year's highly acclaimed 301C Symphony 5-track-bundle finished - ace club moments fusing acid house, Balearia and sci-fi soundscapes. Look out for the new release on Permanent Vacation. If you’re in London tonight (9 October), then you can catch him playing a rare DJ set at Nibiru in Stoke Newington...

I first started writing music because…
I could hear things in my head.

I have been making music since…
1998.

My music is…
Melodic.

My favourite venue is…
Panorama Bar – Berlin.

Music is important because…
It’s a natural human instinct.

My biggest inspiration is…
The natural world and the idea of freedom of expression.

My dream collaboration would be…
Arthur Russell.

To try me out, listen to my song…
Ultraviolet.

If I wasn’t making music I’d be…
Painting - probably landscapes.

In 10 years’ time I want to be…
Healthy, happy, making music and painting.
