Lady Chann has a reputation as one of the fastest female mike chatters in the UK.
This self styled dancehall queen has been tearing up clubs across the UK for the last couple of years with her riotous mix of grime, reggae and bass.
She’s worked with some of the biggest names from across the board of dub, hip hop and reggae - BBC Radio 1’s Toddla T, Durrty Goodz, Manga, Gappy Ranx and Beenie Man are among her studio collaborators while Chann has also made a name for herself as one of Notting Hill Carnival’s favourite acts to ride the soundsystems.
Sticky Situation - her release on Toddla’s Girls Music imprint and produced by Sticky - is always one of the biggest tunes of the carnival weekend. Chann is now branching out further with the launch of her own Dun Dem Records. First release I Duppy Riddim is classic Lady Chann. In your face vocal and sizzling ravey lines underneath which all bodes well for her latest venture. Get to know her in our 30 seconds below…
I first started writing music because…
I wanted to say stuff!
I have been making music since…
Since I was eight.
My music is…
My therapy.
You'll like my music if…
You listen to other good music!
My favourite venue is…
The Royal Albert Hall. I've been there but I haven't performed there yet.
Music is important because…
It enables me to vent my joys, loves, hurts and frustrations.
My biggest inspiration is…
Non musically my mum. Musically a few artists like MJ, Lauren Hill, Phil Collins and Beyoncé, particularly how she performs.
My dream collaboration would be…
With the Pet Shop Boys.
To try me out, listen to…
Sticky Situation or I Duppy Riddim.
If I wasn’t making music I’d…
Probably be working for a global animal welfare organisation because I LOVE animals.
In 10 years time I want to be…
Alive and healthy and HAPPY still!
