New electronic music producers are ten a penny in 2013. Easy access to both music and music making technology means that almost anyone can be a DJ or ‘dance music’ artist.

However, despite the musical deluge, you’d hope that the best talent always rises to the top. If this is true, then the London-based Koreless could be one of the year’s highest flyers. Few new artists sound as sophisticated or as ambitious he does on his debut EP Yugen.

Released on Young Turks, the label responsible for pushing early records from The xx and SBTRKT, the EP is a six-track showcase of his emotive electronica. Much like Four Tet or James Blake before him, he intertwines mesmerising strands of synths to weave a bold, musical statement of intent. Sun, taken from the EP, is truly jaw dropping.

Previous releases for Vase (lorded over by Canada’s Jacques Greene), remixes of Foals and How to Dress Well and collaborations with vocalist Sampha have already singled out Koreless as a talent to watch. But this new EP is confirmation of a talent which has now arrived. Read our 30 Seconds interview and watch the hypnotic video for Sun below…

I first started writing music because…
I wanted to copy what I was hearing.

I have been making music since…
I was very young.

My music is…
Precise and electronic.

My favourite venue is…
Sneaky Pete’s - Edinburgh.

Music is important because…
It’s all I think about day in day out.

My biggest inspiration is…
People like Four Tet. They’ve continued to release great music year after year without stagnating.

My dream collaboration would be…
Stephen O'Malley [from experimental group Sunn O)))].

To try me out, listen to my song…
Sun.

If I wasn’t making music I’d be…
Building ships.

In 10 years time I want to be...
Scoring films.
