‘Upon telling my mum that I was going viral, she asked me if I needed penicillin!’ says the Facebook page of Kelvin Jones.

Thankfully this talented singer songwriter from Stevenage was not ill but instead picking up a massive online fanbase thanks to his song Call You Home.

The gifted 20 year-old from Stevenage, who taps on John Mayer and Ed Sheeran for inspiration, posted the song on YouTube late last year. It somehow found its way onto Reddit and was subsequently discovered by researchers on Good Morning America. The track was viewed over one million times over 24 hours and all points to a singer songwriter with truly universal appeal.

It’s subsequently unsurprising that tastemakers are backing Kelvin to do great things when his full length debut LP drops later this year. Drawing on gospel and blues, he laces this emotional honesty with heartfelt and huge pop melodies.Check out his first official track, Closer, debuted at Brighton’s Great Escape and keep your eyes out for much more to come from this great new talent...

I first started writing music because…
I was never a great poet, so I couldn't express myself clearly enough just through words. On the other hand, I wasn't good enough to do the same just by playing guitar, but combining the two seemed to do the trick.

I have been making music since…
I was 15.

My music is…
A mixture of pop and blues, and a whole lot of other influences that I can only subconsciously remember.

You'll like my music if you listen to...
John Mayer, Ed Sheeran, Michael Jackson, Jack Johnson.

My favourite venue is…
Jones Beach. I've never played it, or even been there, but one day I hope to do so.

Music is important because…
Not sure where to begin on this one, so many reasons. For me, it's an escape. When I'm listening to my favourite song, there's only that moment and nothing else and that's so important to have sometimes.

But music is also important as a background for life, my happiest and saddest memories can be brought back just by playing the song I was listening to when they occurred. I like that.

My biggest inspiration is…
John Mayer, yeah.

My dream collaboration would be…
BB King. I would have loved to have been on the same stage as that man once in my life.

To try me out, listen to my song…
Call You Home. It's the first song I ever wrote where I felt that the music and the lyrics where saying the same thing.

If I wasn’t making music I’d be…
Trying to do something equally impossible. I think I'm more of a career guy than a job guy.

In 10 years’ time I want to be...
Making my fourth album; a spaced out jazz funk and dubstep record, released only on tape, two copies available nationally. Pre-order now.
