Darlington born Katie Coleman is only in her early twenties but sounds like a big pop star, such is the polish of her pristine productions.
The 22 year old London based artist has been writing, gigging and singing since the age of ten and has had a busy few years after moving to London. Her sound is rooted in contemporary pop in the vein of Sia or Ariana Grande but with an added twist of classic nineties r’n’b. Her latest effort, Illusion, is produced by Toby Scott of Xenomania (Little Mix / Jessy J) and shows off her slick pop maneuvers.
Katie will be joining James Arthur on tour as support as he hits London’s Koko, Birmingham and the Ritz in Manchester. We get to know a star in the ascendance who is planning on unveiling new material, new gigs and plans for 2017…
I first started writing music because…
It has felt so natural to me since the age of 10. I first wrote a song about my brother who was kind of a troublesome teenager at the time. I didn't really understand it as I was young, so I grabbed my guitar and wrote a song about how I felt. From then on, whatever happened in my life I had to write about that experience. That's how I deal with things and it feels so natural now.

Since I was about 15 years old. I’d come to London and work in different studios and with different producers and I just fell in love with the whole process of being in a studio environment and writing songs.
My music is…
A mix of all the things I like to listen to. There’s a bit of r'n'b, pop, soul and big diva singers but with a mainstream twist. And I do love a big chorus.

Music is important because…
It sounds cheesy but the world would not be the same without it! Its everywhere and sometimes people don't realise how important it really is. Its a platform for everything and everyone for young people, expressing yourself - emotions, communicating, getting your voice heard and standing for something. Music is so much more than a nice chord progression; it brings people together.
My biggest inspiration is…
My family. The support I get from them is amazing - They just inspire me to keep going no matter what and to never give up. To have that is one of the best feelings in the world.
My dream collaboration would be…
Obviously Beyonce or Christina - But honestly there are so many. As far as British artists I’d love to write/work with Krept and Konan, Tinie Tempah or Disclosure.
