Jacob Aaron is a brand new songwriter from the South Coast, who's blending silky R&B with a raw, electronic edge.

He first started playing guitar as a young child, before honing his production and writing skills via a music degree.

Now collaborating with likeminded emerging talent from his course and beyond, he’s creating a sound that riffs on the visionary production of The Weeknd and the heart and soul of James Blake.

We spend 30 seconds with him to learn more…

I first started making music because…

Music has always been there for me, and got me through some very difficult times. From a very young age, I always knew that music was the only thing I wanted to do.

I've been making music since…

I was very young, dabbling on the guitar since I was little, but I have really got into my production and songwriting in the past four years, during my university degree.

My music is…

Predominantly R&B/soul, but very experimental. I love to experiment with electronic sounds to create my own samples, taking influence from producers like Noah Shebib and Rick Rubin. I also have a soft spot for including a little bit of Rock and tip my hat to nineties hip-hop.

You'll like my music if you listen to…

Artists such as Bryson Tiller, The Weeknd, Drake and Miguel.

My favourite venue is…

Definitely my local club down on the south coast, called Ocassions. It's not a massive venue, but it will always have a place in my heart as the first place I performed in front of a proper audience.

Music is important because…

There have been many experiences I have had that wouldn't have made it through without music. Being able to escape reality by losing yourself in an orchestral symphony, or feel the raw emotion of a hip hop sample and hear it marry perfectly with electronic production. That's magic to me.

My biggest inspiration is…

Definitely The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye). His individuality and his unique approach to the R&B genre and his incredible songwriting has resonated with me in a big way.

My dream collaboration would be…

The Weeknd, undoubtedly.

To try me out, have a listen to…

HMU (Hit Me Up) and The Darkness, two tracks that contrast each other completely.

If I wasn't making music, I would probably be…

Lost, trying to find something that excited me in the way music does! Morbid I know!

In ten years’ time, I want to be…

I’d love to be selling out venues, performing for fans that are truly engaged and moved by my music, and my story. I just want to be comfortable living and making music, that's my biggest dream.
