UK rapper J Spades has music in his blood.
His dad is legendary reggae artist Josey Wales, who has worked with acts including Shaggy and Shabba Ranks. As a child he also moved to Jamaica and was exposed to soundsystem culture before returning to the UK and finding his home in East London.
With his roots in music it’s unsurprising that J has already done well for himself in the hip hop game. The Hackney-based rapper has supported N-Dubz rapper Dappy on tour, and has collaborated with US artist Waka Flocka on 3000, which appeared on his MMMP 2 mixtap. He also performed at Wireless with Naughty Boy in 2013 with DJs including Charlie Sloth, Tim Westwood, Semtex have all backed him to the hilt.
His debut single proper, Slick Rick, is a devastating slab of club hip hop. Featuring the mike tag team of Professor Green and Tinie Tempah, it’s got big chart success written all over it…
I first started writing music because…
Of my dad, reggae artist Josey Wales.
I have been making music since…
I was 18 years old.
My music is…
Art.
You'll like my music if you listen to...
Drake and Rick Ross.
My favourite venue is…
The O2 in London.
Music is important because…
It imitates life.
My biggest inspiration is…
My dad.
My dream collaboration would be…
With Kanye West, JayZ and Drake.
To try me out, listen to my song…
Slick Rick featuring Tinie Tempah and Professor Green.
If I wasn’t making music I’d be…
Doomed!!
In 10 years time I want to be…
Still relevant.
