If you follow TV drama, then it’s likely you’ll know Heather Peace for her performances in the likes of London’s Burning, Emmerdale and Waterloo Road.

What you may not know is that while she has enjoyed a successful screen career, she’s also been beavering away on her skills as a talented singer songwriter.

Originally hailing from Bradford, Heather began her musical career in Manchester, performing her songs in bars before choosing to throw herself into dramatic roles. Music was put on a backburner while she dedicated her time to TV. However, the musical ante has been upped after the release of her first album, Fairytales, in 2012. Heather continued to juggle both careers but recently left Waterloo Road in order to concentrate fully on music.

With second album, The Thin Line due out on 9 June, it’s a gamble that appears to have paid off. The record, made in cahoots with producer James Lewis (Stephen Budd), Cliff Masterson (Emeli Sande, Kylie) and some co-writes with Shelly Poole (Sophie Ellis Bexter), is full of great, well-crafted songs. Featuring everything from bold brassy pop to more intimate confessions, the LP shows off Heather’s full musical gamut and sets her up for a promising musical future. Find out what music means to Heather in our 30 seconds interview…

I first started writing music because…
It was instinctive. I felt like I had to do it.

I have been making music since…
I learned to play the piano aged five and would then make up my own little nursery rhymes.

My music is…
My constant companion. I’ve moved around a lot making TV shows and the first thing I do is set up my music room wherever I go.

You'll like my music if you listen to…
Lyrical, big vocal-based pop.

My favourite venue is…
The Union Chapel in Islington. I played there a couple of years ago and the sound was phenomenal.

Music is important because…
It lifts your soul and can change your mood.

My biggest inspiration is…
Life and its constant rollercoaster of emotion.

My dream collaboration would be…
Stevie Wonder.

To try me out, listen to my song…
We Can Change and I Pick Flowers - that way you get the full spectrum from one extreme to the other.

If I wasn’t making music I’d be…
A marine biologist studying turtles in the Maldives. I met someone who does this. My career officer at school never suggested it.

In 10 years time I want to be…
Still happy. Still making music that I like.
