London quintet Half Loon swaggered onto the burgeoning British psych scene late last September with their spinning debut single Swearword – a heady paean to Californian freakbeat and all-out guitary weirdness.

Channelling the rolling rhythms of baggy era Manchester into a psychedelic feast of bleeding guitars and sixties organ sounds, they plough the same turf as Aussie wonder kid Tame Impala or Kiwi psych maverick Connan Mockasin.

But where Swearword was mellow and tripped out, new single Reverie hits like an exhilarating breath of fresh air, combining fazed guitar solos with an irrepressible bassline.

It was recorded by kindred spirit Syd Kemp of Neil’s Children and mastered by James Aparicio (Spritualized).

The single is due on RIP Records – home to likeminded oddities Temple Songs, Dark Bells and Black Manila – on 2 February. And with more material in the pipeline, together with their first UK tour in the works, 2014 looks set to be Half Loon’s year.

Here we spend 30 seconds with the band to find out more…

We first started writing music because…
It was the easiest way of expressing ourselves.

We have been making music since…
We've been making music since 2013.

Our music is…
However you hear it to be.

You'll like us if you listen to...
Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd, Jacco Gardner's melancholy and Connan Mockasin's peculiarities.

Our favourite venue is…
Is yet to be decided.

Music is important because…
It defines generations and breaks hearts.

Our biggest inspiration is…
The anger, anxiety and reflection on what we see

Our dream collaboration would be…
With Kevin Parker.

To try us out, listen to our song…
Swearword at sunset.

If we weren’t making music we’d be…
Travelling the seas.

In 10 years time we want to have...
Had toured the world and released many records.
