‘Rip it up and start again’ is a maxim at the hub of Great Ytene, a quartet united by their love of thunderous noise and rhythm.

They started out life as an outfit called Colours before replacing sounds, members, then even their name to find themselves. They then lost an album of music back in 2015 before knuckling down again to dedicate six months to creating new material.

Debut album, Locus, out today (17 February), is the result, an abrasive, distorted nine track record full of almost krautrock-isms and post punk edges. We spent 30 seconds with frontman Leon to learn more about the band and their music...

We first started writing music because…
Living in a nothing town there wasn't much else to do, apart from drinking cider in the park on a Friday.

We have been making music since…
Since I attended Live Aid inside my mum's belly.

Our music is…
More of a lifestyle.

You'll like our music if you listen to...
?Wire, PiL and This Heat as well as contemporary acts like ?Total Control, Viet Cong and Disappears?.

Our favourite venue is…
Madison Square Gardens.

Music is important because...
Without music we would have no dream to hump.

Our biggest inspiration is…
Mine is probably William Eggleston.

Our dream collaboration would be…
Be pretty cool to do an album with John Congleton or maybe Steve Albini.

To try us out, listen to my song…
Locus. The full length album available from all good indie stores and Amazon.

If we weren’t making music we’d be…
We would just have the jobs we don't like.

In 10 years’ time we want to be...
At least be recording album number two.
