Ace new quartet Girl Ray are a riot of bouncy basslines and bountiful melodies.

Together, Poppy Hankin, Iris McConnell, Sophie Moss and Emily Craste have spent 2016 beaming a touch of pop sass and wide-eyed enthusiasm into British indie. And now, with 2017 on the horizon, they show no signs of slowing down.

The gang have just released their first physical single, in the form of corking lead track Trouble, with B-side Where Am I Now, via Moshi Moshi Singles Club.

They’ve also cut their teeth supporting Lets Eat Grandma, Slow Club and Meilyr Jones this year, as well earning slots at the Green Man, Swn and By The Sea festivals.

With vocal hooks channelling the heyday of Euros Childs’ Gorkys Zygotic Mynci, and a peerless lust for life, we’re expecting big things from their debut LP, which lands in the Spring.

We spend 30 seconds with them to learn more…

We first started making music because…
We wanted to go on tour in the States and be rock stars.

We have been making music since…
As just Poppy and Iris since 2013. As the whole band since January 2015.

Our music is…
Radical.

You'll like our music if you listen to...
The Beatles.

Our favourite venue is…
Fuel in Manchester.

Music is important because…
It’s such a mood shifter, and we all need that from time to time. It frames your emotions and reminds you that you're not the only one having them!

Our biggest inspiration is…
Our mums.

Our dream collaboration would be…
Ariana Grande.

To try us out, listen to our song…
Ghosty.

If we weren’t making music we’d be…
At university.

In 10 years’ time we want to be…
Nuns.

Girl Ray play Omeara in London on 28 January.
