Mansfield newcomer Georgie is no shrinking violet, that’s for sure.

With a vocal prowess and songwriting slant hefty enough to take on most resident chart dwellers, it’s no wonder she’s been snapped up by Columbia Records.

Company of Theives, her first single for the major, soaks up sixties soul and classic chart-busting pop, adding a large pinch of northern grit.

It was produced by Matthew E White in Virginia, carrying echoes of the American Mid West in its fuzzy guitars and muggy atmosphere.

Live, Georgie has already got a performance at Glastonbury under her belt, with the BBC marking her out as one of the acts to watch over the weekend.

Now coming to the end of her support slot on Jake Bugg’s autumn tour, she’ll be heading out with Blossoms during December (see below for dates).

We hear from an artist on the up...

I first started making music...
Because it was a way to express myself more than anything. Was an amazing to find something great like music as a way to channel emotion at a young age.

I have been making music since...
I was about 14 and picked up the guitar and just really fell in love with making music and writing songs. Then I started playing live and fell in love even more haha!

My music is…
Music. I guess classic kinda songs with a modern twist.

You'll like my music if you listen to maybe -
Things like Fleetwood Mac, PJ Harvey, First Aid Kit, Jake Bugg, Courtney Barnett. My Spotify playlist has most of my influences.

My favourite venue is…
Rock City Nottingham.

Music is important because…
It defines who we are and is relatable to everyone and to life. Almost everyone's been through the same troubles, lows and highs in life and music is something that touches us and takes us to those places. Picks us up when we are down, makes you think, gives you confidence, makes you love, makes you party makes you angry, happy, everything.

My biggest inspiration is...
I guess Elvis was the guy who made me pick up the guitar but I'm inspired daily by life and a lot of people who surround me.

My dream collaboration would be…
I wouldn’t say no to a whisky and a jam with Janis Joplin (in my dreams!) Stevie Nicks, Bon Iver, ah, there are so many...

To try me out, listen to…
My first single, Company of Thieves.

If I wasn’t making music I'd be…
Super sad. I’d be listening to music though. I don't really have a plan B so hopefully plan A is gonna work out.

In 10 years’ time I want to be…
Making another record, touring, seeing new places and meeting new people.

Company of Thieves is released on 7 November through Columbia Records.
