Footsie is an MC and producer from London’s East End who has been a key player in the grime game since the scene’s early days.
Alongside MC D Double E, Footsie signed to Dizzee Rascal’s Dirtee Stank label back in 2005 as one half of the Newham Generals. The pair achieved some notoriety with their raw, energetic take on the sound, best heard on 2009’s Generally Speaking and later EP Bag of Grease.
Footsie has since started retrospectively showcasing his instrumental works via the King Original Volume one and two collections. The third volume in the series continues where the previous releases left off, but this time bringing Footsie bang up to date with his back catalogue. Released via his own Braindead label, it’s a pointer to where his head is currently at, with the likes of Bubblers and Cold Winter showing off his trap and dubstep leanings. After demolishing the likes of Wiley, Rude Kid and Jammer in the epic Lord of the Beats producer war late last year, Footsie now has his eyes set on 2014...

My dad’s a drummer and heads up his own soundsystem called King Original. As a youngster he took me to his studio and I used to watch him play and record with all these musicians. Watching him write music, create music – it definitely gave me the bug.
I have been making music since…
I was listening from early but I was about eight years old when I started to play the drums.
My music is…
A mixture of many things. Obviously I have the strong reggae background, so there's a heavy influence of that in there - like a foundation of drums and bass. But growing up I was exposed to new music like jungle, garage and hip-hop. Those street sounds definitely have a major part to play in my sound and my music.
