Skepta and Tricky collaborator Fifi Rong may have helped colour the work of a number high-profile artists but it’s her own sultry electronica that is now catching light.
Bejing-born but currently London-based, Fifi’s productions including the ace Forbidden Desire EP have helped attract heat from the likes of the Fader and BBC Radio 1.
From performing gigs across the UK, Europe and China to working with Emmy-nominated Robert L.Smith (Lady Gaga/David Bowie), there’s clearly some intrigue going on inside her hybrid electronic sonics. Fans of Skepta and his new album Konnichiwa will probably already know her from the otherworldly opening to his new record. But not only is she a great new talent, she's also got a keen eye for a collaboration and ability to be in the right place, at the right time. We get under the skin of a new artist who is set to dizzy preconceptions when her debut album drops…
I first started writing music because...
I needed to find a way to express my feelings.
I have been making music since...
The moment I couldn’t stand spending my life on anything else I don’t truly love doing.
My music is...
Something else.
You'll like my music if you listen to...
An artist that made your heart ache repeatedly (but you love it) for over six weeks in your own world of dark romance.
My favourite venue is...
Still in my bucket list.
Music is important because…
It’s one of the best art form that connects humanity, and one of the most beautiful gifts of our existence.
My biggest inspiration is...
My emotions.
My dream collaboration would be...
Shlohmo.
To try me out, listen to my songs...
Holy, Forbidden Desire, Next Pursuit and Only If I Knew.
If I wasn’t making music I’d be...
Having a hard time to find out what true happiness feels like.
In 10 years’ time I want to be...
Still making good (if not better music) with a pure heart.
