Brighton five piece Fickle Friends have designs on your affections.
Natti, Sam, Harry, Chris and Jack make up the band, a group of tight mates who met at university and have been inseparable ever since. They make seriously slick sounding electronic pop which manages to make you dance and tug on your heart strings all at the same.
Debut single SWIM emerged on SoundCloud at the start of last year and proved to be one of the hits of the year for the more switched on music lover. Reminiscent of the yearning, irresistible pop of Haim or Blood Orange, they’ve followed it with For You and Play, two similarly sleek slices of new wave pop.
The group lit up last year’s festival season, clocked up hundreds of thousands of SoundCloud plays and are launching their take over of 2015 with a sold out London gig on 24 February at the Waiting Room in Stoke Newington. We find out that their ambitions are intergalactic in our 30 seconds interview below…
We first started writing music because…
We all found a type of music that we love and we wanted to play it all over the world.
We have been making music since…
2013.
Our music is…
Something you listen to when you pass your driving test. You waste a whole tank of petrol because you want to drive up and down the coast with it blaring out of your windows.
You'll like our music if you listen to...
Friendly Fires, The 1975, Bombay Bicycle Club, Haim.
Our favourite venue is…
KOKO Camden in London. We’ve got some great memories in that place.
Music is important because…
It's what feelings sound like.
Our biggest inspiration is…
Well there are five of us so there’s quite a mix. But it spans from Michael Jackson to Debbie Harry to Jimi Hendrix to John Mayer.
Our dream collaboration would be…
Pharrell Williams ... and his hat.
To try us out, listen to my song…
SWIM.
If we weren’t making music we’d be…
A travelling circus.
In 10 years time we want to be...
In ten years there’ll probably be a festival in space. We’d like to headline that.
