Swedish-American post-punk quartet FEWS are regularly spotted around Brixton’s seedier nightspots, counting Speedy Wunderground and South London production stalwart Dan Carey among their cohorts.

Officially arriving last year as a vehemently DIY four-piece with an eight-minute monster in their back pocket (Ill), the band have since signed to PIAS and are now almost ready to unleash their first album.

If their latest single The Zoo is anything to go by, FEWS have definitely got one ear firmly on eighties post-punk bands like Magazine, The Cure and Gang of Four, while another is surely transfixed on the motorik mayhem of Stereolab or Moon Duo.

It all adds up to a thrilling foray into the weirder outliers of punk-rock and electronic indie.

As we’re spending the week celebrating some of our favourite new artists going over to SXSW from the UK this week, we were thrilled to catch 30 seconds with this gang to find out more about their scuzzy ‘sex-like’ sounds…

We first started making music because…
It was something that had to be done in a way. Ever since I found Deedee's personal page on Myspace I knew I needed to make music with this guy. It was like meeting your long lost brother. Sounds cheesy as fuck but true.

We have been making music since…
2012 when we met for the first time in Berlin that summer. It made sense after loads of after-parties talking about music and thinking the same way about everything. After which we met Rusty and Jay through our friend (producer) Dan Carey.

Our music is…
Repetitive and quite intense. Kinda sex-like.

You'll like our music if you listen to...
The Soft Moon, John Maus, Killing Joke and stuff like that probably.

Our favourite venue is…
The Windmill in South London. No doubt.

Music is important because…
It's way bigger than any other language and it makes you feel things more than anything else.

Our biggest inspiration is…
Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Our dream collaboration would be…
With Chino Moreno.

To try us out, listen to our song…
The Zoo.

If we weren’t making music we’d be…
Drug dealers, teachers, priests and sailors.

In 10 years’ time we want to be…
A band that doesn't release a 'greatest hits' album.
