Only in his early 20s, Leeds-based singer songwriter Eaves aka Joe Lyons has spent the last few months working hard to turn heads and ears with his grungy take on folk rock.
Having released his debut As Old As The Grave EP, to much acclaim in November of last year, Eaves has been out on the road winning over music fans both old and new with a vital update on a classic songwriting sound. It’s Joe’s emotional soul wringing and whisky-soaked arresting voice which captivates, wrapping itself around tunes dabbling in big themes around love and death.
It’s a hazy sound just about captured on What Green Feels Like, an entrancing nine song debut album released earlier this year to no little acclaim. It’s seen Joe been hand-picked to tour with Slow Club and Nick Mulvey before a summer of festivals and headline tour in October. I was really young. Had a bit of a hiatus as a teenager, but I used to write on my granddad's electronic keyboard and save songs on floppy disk. I loved the choir sounds and I wanted to be a film composer back then. I started taking it seriously a couple of years ago and now I do it everyday.
