Beware! Brand new quintet Dracula Legs are set to unleash their first single and, by the sounds of it, they’re not planning on taking prisoners.

This plucky bunch, who have gathered in London from as far and wide as the Canadian great lakes and the Welsh mountains, create the kind of devilishly moreish monster blues that Nick Cave, the Handsome Family and Jeffrey Lewis have spent years perfecting.

Their fearless riffs and satanic beats take the outsider alt-rock of Kurt Vile into new rockabilly territories and throw more than a little punkish bedlam into the mix.

Tonight’s gig (11 April) at The Old Blue Last, London, marks their first performance at a ‘proper’ venue, and offers gig goers an early peek into their rock ‘n’ roll noir.

With just one proper release to their name, the forthcoming Heartburn Destination/Cold Licks seven-inch on Too Pure Singles Club, the band have already leached more than their fair share of radio backing, with both XFM and BBC 6 Music pledging early support.

Meanwhile, unofficial cassette-only demo releases, including Songs To Slack To (which carries the strapline ‘Fuck school and fuck iTunes’), have helped raise their outsider credentials and have upped the anarchist ante.

We spent 30 seconds with Willard from the band to discover that, despite their devilish moniker, Dracula Legs have heaps of heart and soul…

We first started writing music because...
Some unknown mystical force compelled us to do it. It’s an escape from the humdrum and tax of the everyday sh*t storm that is life in a big city.

We have been making music since...
As Dracula Legs we have been making music since around last May when Neil joined Dan, Joel and myself - with Art coming in on vocals a little after.

Dan and myself have been working together for a number of years in our former project Friendship and Joel played with Dan in a previous band called Redjetson.

Our music is...
Fun, thoughtful and probably good to sink a beer to on a sunny day.

You'll like us if you listen to...
Tough one. I would like to think we would appeal to fans of Neil Young, Nick Cave and hopefully be put in a bag with acts like King Tuff or Black Lips too.

Our favourite venue is...
Umm… we have our first show at a 'proper' venue - the Old Blue Last next Friday (the 11 April), although I have enjoyed playing at the Lexington, the Shacklwell Arms and The Brudenell Social Club in Leeds before so those would be a few spots I would like to revisit.

Music is important because...
It can lift the spirit and heal the heart... There is a song for every occasion... Deep…

Our biggest inspiration is...
The guitar.

Our dream collaboration would be...
Nirvana.

To try us out, listen to our song...
Heartburn Destination.

If we weren't making music we'd be...
Starting a cat farm.

In 10 years’ time we want to be...
Retired.
