What do you get when you cross a Triumph Dolomite with a Morris Minor?
It’s from this unlikely fusion of vehicles that Southampton’s Joe Grimshaw (vocals/guitar) and Max Palmier (drums) took the name of their group.
The pair, who first hit it off musically back in 2010, use the raw bluster and riffs of classic rock acts as the blueprint for their sound. Think Led Zepp, The White Stripes and Queens of the Stone Age all with a contemporary sheen and injection of youth and you’ll be somewhere close to the dirty blues of Dolomite Minor.
Comprised of just vocals, guitar and drums, the pair have been causing a serious noise across the UK’s network of smaller venues. They’re been tearing up and down the country with a collection of songs which are heavy on stomp, and sweaty, feedback-filled vigour.
The past six months has seen the duo perform at the Reading and Leeds Festivals, support Drenge and Lyger as well as take on their own headline slots following the release of their debut EP. They’ve already been back out on the road in 2014 and with shows lined up at the likes of Liverpool Sound City and the Great Escape, the future is looking rosy for this hard-working pair...
We first started writing music because…
We grew up listening to Hendrix, Cream, The Doors etc. It just felt natural to create something of our own.
We have been making music since…
Dolomite Minor began in 2010, around July time. But we've been playing music together since we were kids.
Our music is…
Dark, with blues stoner influences. Fuzz infused riffs.
You'll like our music if you listen to...
Zeppelin, Hendrix, anything Jack White, Queens of the Stone Age. The Doors.
Our favourite venue is…
The Bedford Corn Exchange was memorable.
Music is important because…
Without it we would be unemployed.
Our biggest inspiration is…
In terms of drums; Bonham. In terms of guitars; Davy Graham.
Our dream collaboration would be…
Josh Homme.
To try us out, listen to our song…
Talk Like An Aztec.
If we weren’t making music we’d be…
Astronauts.
In 10 years time we want to be…
Still making music, being fortunate enough to see the world and play in front of people who appreciate what we do.
