Cotton Wolf are Lion Robertson and Seb Goldfinch, a pair of Welsh sonic creators toiling in the interface between film scores, electronica and classical composition.

Following the critical success of their three remarkable EPs, Moxa, Cloud City and Catapelt, their union birthed debut album Life In Analogue earlier in the year.

Citing influences ranging from A Guy Called Gerald to Hans Zimmer or Hans Richter, there are traces of 808 State and New Order too all undercut by a unifying thread to their bleeps - to inject warm blooded sounds into their machines.

Get to know the pair and their life lived in analogue in our 30 seconds interview below…

We first started writing music because…
Of our shared passion for electronic music, having made home-recorded experimental sound collages as children using record-players, video recorders and tape recorders, the technology that existed back in the early eighties…

We have been making music since…
2013 as Cotton Wolf, but have been composing, producing and arranging for over 20 years, collaborating on other people’s musical/art projects and TV.

Our music is…
Both a collision of our natural musical styles, but also something that neither of us would create separately, making melodic electronic music with big impactful sounds, integrating field recordings which underpin the feel of the music and add something human to our electronic soundscape.

You'll like our music if you listen to...
Music on record labels such as Warp, Ninja Tune, Lo-Recordings, Border Community - and if you like melodic and harmonically interesting music. We both have an eclectic taste in music from Can to Scott Walker, Poulenc, John Williams, Stravinsky, The Beach Boys ... we love music with an exciting feel, great arrangements, and brilliant musicianship and musicality.

Our favourite venue is…
Clwb Ifor Bach. Amazing people and a fantastic sound system!

Music is important because…
It’s escapism, it’s inspirational, and pinpoints a moment in time.

Our biggest inspiration is…
Everything we’ve ever listened to.

Our dream collaboration would be…
With Clark and Dudley Simpson (Australian classical composer of TV music such as early Doctor Who and Blake’s 7), musicians who are and were one step ahead of the game…

To try us out, listen to my song…
Our song Avalon, from our debut album Life in Analogue.

If we weren’t making music we’d be…
Other people entirely.

In 10 years’ time we want to be...
Writing soundtracks to beautiful films!
