Blackburn singer songwriter Charlotte OC’s musical history points to two defining moments in her transition into being a fully fledged pop star.
The first was when she dressed up as a witch as a child and lurked in her driveway staring at passerbys in a long black dress. The latest was in November 2012 when she was in Berlin for a co-writing session for her new album.
Charlotte’s recent EP Burning, released in March through Polydor Records, is a sign post to her forthcoming full length effort. Lead track If My House Was Burning was worked on by some of the studio teams behind hits from the likes of Solange, Banks and Amy Winehouse. The release balances the odd with the emotionally wraught and points to a future worth waiting for. Catch her at the Great Escape this week...
I first started writing music because…
It was a way to get things off my chest
I have been making music since…
16 years old.
My music is…
Passionate, haunting, soul.
My favourite venue is…
Olympia in Dublin.
Music is important because…
It has the ability to change everything
My biggest inspiration is…
Everything.
My dream collaboration would be…
With Aretha Franklin.
To try me out, listen to my song…
Colour my heart.
If I wasn’t making music I’d be…
Somebody else.
In 10 years' time I want to be...
Horribly successful :).
Catch Charlotte at the Great Escape in Brighton this Friday.
