Charles Howl are masters of driving guitars and pummelling melodies. Part Ride, part The Ramones, their brand of kitsch and cosmic punk is as catchy as it is chaotic.

Headed up by Charles and Bobby from The Proper Ornaments, they’ve grown to encompass members of Let’s Wrestle and Talons – making them well equipped to provide a hefty wallop of bass-drums-guitars.

Recently spotted by Cornershop’s Ben Ayres and Tjinder Singh, the band have released their debut record through the former’s new Ample Play imprint.

The set has won the heart of committed indie ringleader Marc Riley, who recently had them in for a session on his BBC Radio 6 Music show.

We spend 30 seconds with the band to learn more about their dream collaborations and their love of the French countryside...

We first started writing music because…
We wanted to travel.

We have been making music since…
2012.

Our music is…
Made up as we go along.

You'll like our music if you listen to...
Guitar music.

Our favourite venue is…
Fanfulla, Rome.

Music is important because…
It keeps people off Facebook.

Our biggest inspiration is…
Antonio Scafidi.

Our dream collaboration would be…
Phil Spector.

To try us out, listen to my song…
Going Down With a Hi.

If we weren’t making music we’d be…
Living in the French countryside.

In 10 years time we want to be...
Living in the French countryside.
