Surf guitars, krautrock grooves and classic Welsh psyche all run writ through the songs of CaStleS, a trio from North Wales whose music owes as much to the mountains of Snowdonia as the scores of Ennio Morricone.

Formed in back in 2008 by brothers Dion and Cynyr Hamer, after various musical manifestations as a duo, they were joined by Derwyddon Dr Gonzo bassist Calvin Thomas.

Their upcoming debut album Fforesteering was recorded on a Zoom 16-track digital recorder inside a static caravan at guitarist and vocalist Cynyr’s home in Ceunant, high up in the hills of Snowdonia. According to the band, the release was inspired by the landscape and location of the caravan as much as their bottomless record collections.

They’re now on the up and up following performances at the BBC Introducing stage in August 2016 at Reading & Leeds Festival where their psyche-grooves won over the crowds. Catch them at the Moon Club in Cardiff for a Fforesteering album launch party…

We first started writing music because…
We had to, after discovering brilliant new and old music, we had to give it a go.

We have been making music since…
We learned to play instruments, which was quite late in comparison to others - late teens.

Our music is…
Alternative rock with a hint of psychedelia and experimentation.

You'll like our music if you listen to...
Os Mutantes, Cream, Jefferson Airplane, Super Furry Animals, The Beatles.

Our favourite venue is…
Clwb Ifor Bach, Cardiff.

Music is important because…
Absolutely everyone needs it at some point in their lives.

Our biggest inspiration is…
Music itself … and nature.

Our dream collaboration would be…
Yoko Ono and Paul McCartney.

To try us out, listen to our song…
Foresteering.

If we weren’t making music we’d be…
Listening to it whilst making artwork.

In 10 years’ time we want to be...
Alive and still making music!
