Country singer-songwriter Carolynne started her musical journey as a teenager hitting the road as part of touring outfit Sundown.
After several years of traversing the UK, at eighteen she left her family home in Yorkshire and headed for London to pursue her music career, signing a contract with BMG and starting to work as a published songwriter.
She has since worked in Sweden, Nashville and even graced the X-Factor, developing her style and sound as an accomplished songwriter for hire.
After Carolynne's well received debut I Love You But Shut Up, she’s also become a regular at the Country to Country event at the O2. While not playing this year, she’s instead opted to pour her energies into new EP Coming Back To Me. We get to know her in our 30 seconds interview below…
I first started writing music because…
I kept a diary - songwriting really evolved for me from that. I wasn't really the type of kid to talk much about what I was feeling so I used to write it down.
I have been making music since
I was about 14. That's really when I started putting my lyrics to melody. I didn't seriously start writing until I moved to London at eighteen, although when I was seven I did write a funny song about my mum giving me and my sister calpol when we were poorly...
My music is…
Heartfelt country-pop. Some songs I write are very tongue-in-cheek and have elements of my northern sense of humour, but many of my songs are straight from the heart stories written about things that are important to me or things I've been through in my life.
You'll like my music if you listen to...
Music in your car! Shania Twain, Little Big Town or Carrie Underwood.
My favourite venue is…
The Royal Albert Hall. I was lucky enough to play there several years ago opening for Tony Christie on his UK tour and I have dreamt about returning to play to my own audience ever since.
Music is important because…
It is part of me. It's my escape, it's my release, it's my love and sometimes my hate. I fall in and out of love with music all the time but one thing is for sure, I always come back to it.
My biggest inspiration is…
I don't really have the one inspiration I look up to. I'm constantly inspired by new things and new artists, especially those who have been persistent with their music. So many these days give it a shot then retreat at the first knock back or rejection. This industry is hard so I'd say my inspiration are those artists still writing their own songs and playing those clubs hoping for a break.
My dream collaboration would be…
I've always, always adored Martina McBride, since I was a little girl, so I'd love to duet with her.
To try me out, listen to my song…
Standing On Top Of The World. It's sort of been my anthem for this past year.
If I wasn’t making music I’d be…
An interior designer. I love home design so I'd probably be trying to be creative in that industry somehow.
In 10 years’ time I want to be...
Happy! And hopefully still in love with music touring somewhere.
Coming Back To Me is released on 7 April.
