Sheffield producer and DJ cut his musical teeth back in the late nineties, first on rave, then with the city’s biggest chart ticklers of the time, the All Seeing I.
Alongside the likes of Tony Christie and Jarvis Cocker, he was one of a number of collaborators with the group before going on to form his own electronic act, Hiem and produce in his own name as Bozzwell.
With musical hench man Nick Eastwood in tow, Hiem have released the well received Escape from Division Street (featuring Roots Manuva and Phil Oakey from the Human League), been photographed in a tank and delighted clubs around the Europe with their roof raising live show.
Not only that but Bozzwell is an industrious DJ and producer in his own right, working on original tracks and remixes for some of the hippest labels in dance music. Crosstown Rebels, Eskimo, Clouded Vision, Throne of Blood and Relish have all called on Bozz to provide them with electronic beats - each one has been more deadly and melodic than the last.
New projects include a collaboration with Headman, new Hiem record via Startalk Internaional and more dancefloor killers. Find out why he loves Djing in Berlin in our 30 seconds interview below…
I first started writing music because
Well I didn’t have a choice. I think it chose me rather than the other way around.
I have been making music since…
I would say since I was nine or 10. I remember playing the drums with a brass band and being on Radio Wales.
My music is...
My music is me - I am my music.
You'll like my music if you listen to...
I think you’ll dig my scene if you like dance music or electronic music with a decent tune to it, or a half decent song.
My favourite venue is…
Probably Watergate in Berlin, mainly because of the lights and the crowd is usually good in there. Plus you can’t beat those pull out gold racks to put your record box on. Well posh!
Music is important because…
It can change your life kids. Or get you through a bad time, or even a good time.
My biggest inspiration is….
My biggest inspiration is my friends, love, hope and fear.
My dream collaboration would be…
Ooooh Thomas Dolby or Gram Parsons ,but then again he’s dead. Or Trevor Horn would be good.
To try me out, listen to my song…
Listen To I’m Emotive on Relish recordings. I wrote it 14 years ago when I was dropping out of music college. It’s likes some kind of post-punk trench-coat disco thing. It seems to get them all going on the dancefloor.
If I wasn’t making music I’d be…
A ufologist as I’m always skywatching.
In 10 years time I want to be…
Appearing in Game Of Thrones if it’s still going.
