Led by the delicate vocals of singer Ida Wenøe, Boho Dancer are a Danish three piece who make music perfect for this time of the year when the days start getting shorter and the nights begin to draw in.
While the music (woven together with the help of fellow band members Simun Mohr and Asker Bjork) is eerie, enchanting folk-esque pop, Ida wraps it up in her own gothic fairy tales, full of melody and enchanting vocal hooks.
The trio first began to musically get it on back in 2009 with a fluctuating line up before the group’s current members settled down and began homing in on their current sound. It’s a music blending the backdrop of their Scandinavian homeland with contemporary acoustic pop and dramatic power.
Making music influenced by the likes of Fleet Foxes, Joni Mitchell and Neil Young, Boho Dancer have already done much to build an impressive following and presence in Denmark and Scandinavia.
They’ve supported some of the biggest Danish acts including CODY and Sort Sol while the recent release of their Gemini debut album should see them casting similar musical spells on audiences over here. Catch them on tour and get to know them below…
We first started writing music because…
It was a necessity. Together we found a place where we could all express ourselves as both musicians and individuals.
We have been making music since…
2009.
Our music is…
Honest and intimate, fragile yet powerful, yearning and melancholic, dark yet hopeful.
You'll like our music if you listen to...
Leonard Cohen, Grizzly Bear, Local Natives, First Aid Kit, Simon and Garfunkel, Joni Mitchell.
Our favourite venue is…
Nemoland at Freetown Christiania. Always good vibes and free spirited people.
Music is important because…
It increases your feelings.
Our biggest inspiration is…
What we find in ourselves and others. We make history everyday and to capture the anecdotes surrounding us is where the art lies.
Our dream collaboration would be…
With Patti Smith.
To try us out, listen to our song…
Gemini.
If we weren’t making music we’d be …
Going mad!
In 10 years time we want to be...
Touring the world, working on our eighth album and playing with Patti Smith.
