Bo Rocha is vocalist, songwriter and producer Kate Sproule, who crafts perfectly peripheral pop that’s anchored by lashings of spaced-out bass.

She’s been playing in bands for years, finding her musical feet as the frontwoman of electronic-folk four-piece Mt. Wolf.

But it was only on parting ways with the band three years ago that she began tentatively exploring the murky boundaries between electronics, lo-fi pop and alt-R&B.

Swapping that all-pervading bedroom aesthetic for something much more hi fidelity, her solo sound has revealed her true colours as an electronic-pop innovator.

The one-time Purcell School of Music student is now making big strides with a small portfolio of tracks that have already received love from DIY, Noisey and The Line Of Best Fit, plus on-air support from BBC 1Xtra’s Jamz Supernova.

Now with a new EP on the way, Hold My Gaze, due 9 September, Kate’s ready to let us in on the next phase of her solo adventure.

We spend 30 seconds with our former Featured Artist of the Week to learn more…

I have been making music…
For about three years, playing a lot longer.

My music is...
All about mood and working things out.

You'll like me if you listen to…
Soul, hip-hop, jazz.. Things that are a bit weird.

My favourite venue is…
I like KOKO, it’s beautiful and feels intimate. I also love going to small shows at Vortex Jazz Club.

Music is important because…
It is transformative.

My biggest inspiration is…
Everyday life, the people around me.

My dream collaboration would be…
Mike Dean or Pink Floyd.

To try me out, listen to my track…
Enough For You or Angel Eyes.

If I wasn’t making music I’d be…
Trying to stay in further education for as long as possible or living far away somewhere, in the middle of nowhere.

In 10 years’ time I want to be…
Making records. And happy x

Bo Rocha plays Rye Wax, Peckham, London, on 12 September.
