Newcastle blues rockers Bernaccia have been blazing a trail out of the north-east over 2014, brewing up a hard hitting mix of psychedelics and guitar driven fury.

2014 has marked a big year for the band - consisting of Jonny Noble, Stew Falkous, Chris Cox and Kieran Healy. This quartet of young men and good mates have done their best to distil their love of folk, Americana and more mystical Doors-esque voodoo into their music. Hard work tightening and hardening their sound has paid off, with high profile support slots playing alongside the likes of Royal Blood and Wolf People as well as an ace set at Evolution Emerging 2014.

New EP, Light //-// Dark, is the next step forward for the group, demonstrating a darkness at the heart of their stomping, crowd lifting blues rock. Get to know…

We first started writing music because…
We shared a taste for music at school and I suppose we all had a love of stories and the written word. The band was formed out of a simple desire to create music and tell stories.

We have been making music since…
Bernaccia is a couple years old now but we (Jonny, Kieran, Stew, Chris) have been jamming since way back when in 2008. We practiced in a Mechanics Social Club in Dunston and then moved into Newcastle to begin to blend our sound.

Our music is…
A melting pot of different sounds: blues, folk, psych, choral, ambient, world, Americana it all gets mixed in together. It’s a reaction to many influences at once.

You'll like our music if you listen to...
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (BRMC), the Doors, Johnny Cash, Black Angels, Dead Can Dance.

Our favourite venue is…
Think Tank? Newcastle, its home soil and it’s attracting a huge amount of great music to its doors that is really encouraging the scene.

Music is important because…
It’s vitally important for people to communicate to each other and music can be that pure expression. I think it can unite people to rejoice on a large outward scale and yet can be dramatically personal at the same time. I think when it comes down to it, music is human nature. It’s the beat of the cosmos man.

Our biggest inspiration is…
New and interesting music with content (Kieran). Musically for me (Jonny) I would say Peter Green, BB King and BRMC, while lyrically Jim Morrison and Johnny Cash have hugely affected my song writing.

Our dream collaboration would be…
Tinariwen.

To try us out, listen to my song…
Manifest.

If we weren’t making music we’d be…
Financially more secure and dramatically less interesting.

In 10 years time we want to be...
Happily producing and performing our music to eager ears in countries all over the world and (hopefully) still able to hear.
