The title of AK/DK’s debut - SYNTHS + DRUMS + NOISE + SPACE – captures the very essence of this fiercesome twopiece.
Hailing from Brighton, Ed (drums and synths) and Graham (again drums and synths) brew up a heady musical riot their namesakes AC/DC would be scared of.
Originally starting out at an improvised live session with Can legend Damo Suziki, the pair have spent the past year garnering praise for their shattering of conventional forms using a mixture of computers and raw power to achieve their aims.
Their ace debut saw them compared to the likes of Factory Floor and Battles while they’ve since opened gigs and played with a huge range of artists including Add N to (X) and the Dandy Warhols, who picked the pair to accompany them for their recent European tour. If you’re into primal sounds which clatters somewhere in the space between rhythm and art, then AK/DK are the outfit for you. We first started writing music because…
We decided it would be a good idea to start a band that just had synths and drums.
We have been making music since…
The band started live on stage in the now defunct Shunt Lounge under London Bridge station back in 2008. The audience usually sees the end result, so we wanted to show the beginning which is often much more exciting.
Our music is…
A mix of fuzzed-up synths and live drums. It started off as a solely live, completely improvised project but we have managed to capture some of this chaos in recordings which is what you can hear in our first album Synths + Drums + Noise + Space.

Our favourite venue is…
Hard to say, but some of the venues that we’ve played and that have stuck with us are: The Old Blue Last (Shoreditch), The Green Door Store (Brighton) and, the absolutely incredible, Olympia (Paris).
Music is important because…
It fills in the gaps between the speaking on the radio.
Our biggest inspiration is…
The constantly surprising sounds that come out of our synths - usually our songs start from an accidental synth arpeggio or a crazy delay feedback.
Our dream collaboration would be…
We're lucky enough to have already collaborated with two of our biggest inspirations; Ann Shenton (Add N to X) and Damo Suzuki (Can), but given the chance it would have to be with electronic pioneer Raymond Scott.
