The right membership for you
If you have at least 15 works in your catalogue, and you can provide evidence of your status as a publisher, you can earn royalties through your performing and mechanical rights. You don’t need to join if you are a representing a record label.
When to join MCPS
The Mechanical-Copyright Protection Society (MCPS) collects royalties for members when their music is reproduced, copied or downloaded. You can join MCPS as a publisher if the music in your catalogue has been:
- commercially released by a record company
- recorded and used by a radio or TV programme
- recorded and used for an audio-visual or multimedia production
- used online
When to join PRS
The Performing Right Society (PRS) collects royalties for members when their music is publicly performed. You can join PRS as a publisher if the music in your catalogue is:
- broadcast on radio or TV
- used online
- performed live
