PRS for Music have announced that 2009 was a breakthrough year for pan-European licensing deals.

12 key deals were signed during the year with many of the largest online and mobile providers and further negotiations are ongoing with a range of high profile digital service providers for 2010.

During 2009 PRS for Music has concluded licensing agreements for European services including: Amazon, Apple iTunes, eMusic, Napster, Nokia, Omnifone, Real Networks and Spotify. Deals in place have supported a significant expansion of the European online music market, bringing choice to consumers in a number of countries across the continent.

These licensing deals include those covering the mechanical rights of Peer Music, Chrysalis Music Publishing, as well as those covering the rights of Warner Chappell where PRS for Music has been selected as the licensing body of choice as part of their PEDL initiative. The series of European deals is expected to a have a noticeable positive impact on revenue figures for 2009 when they are confirmed during quarter 1.

Andrew Shaw, MD Broadcast, Online & Recorded Media, PRS for Music said

“2009 has been a record year for deals at PRS for Music and we’re delighted to be playing such an active role in pan-European licensing. By expanding the repertoire we offer and being a leader in the market we are finding more licensees are coming to us to launch their European digital music services.”
