Head of Commercial Development

About the role

The primary activities for the role will be:

Leading the development of new and refreshed simplified and standardised products and services, from idea to launch, which deliver sustainable revenue growth for PRS for Music members. 

Other duties will include, but limited to: 

  • Responsible for the delivery of strategies to sustainably increase PRS for Music member income through: 
  • development of new products and services, 
  • renegotiation of existing price structures with key markets (e.g. broadcast, digital and live events), trade bodies and customers and, 
  • addressing competitive threats from new market entrants and disrupting events. 
  • Work collaboratively with Commercial peers to ensure consistency between bespoke, negotiated agreements and standard product offerings. 
  • The subject matter expert for all tariffs, licensing approaches and discretionary charging policies utilised by PRS for Music to deliver royalty revenue for members. 
  • Lead commercial negotiations with new counterparties and onboard them as partners: creating strategy, sourcing opportunities, commissioning analysis and negotiating ‘win-win’ deals. 
  • Responsible for the formulation of Board and Committee update and approval papers for new initiatives or changes to existing schemes or tariffs. 
  • Leading an engaged team to deliver development initiatives and strategies to diversify and grow income to help strengthen PRS for Music’s business model. 
  • Ownership of the development and maintenance of relationships with external bodies representing user groups of PRS for Music repertoire
  • Continually cultivate knowledge of global collective rights management commercial best practice and developments in technology and related industries; utilising the knowledge and understanding of successful practices to direct, guide and support PRS for Music’s strategic partnerships to build and deliver winning growth strategies to remain at the forefront of global music licensing advances. 

About you

 

The successful candidate will have/be: 

  • Current and detailed knowledge of relevant external markets and the way in which these are developing, along with an understanding of what opportunities they might provide to PRS. 
  • Understanding of the various rights PRS for Music is able to license or obtain, and how these can be leveraged effectively to drive value in the business. 
  • Deep knowledge of licensing tariffs, schemes and bespoke arrangements along with background understanding to their historic development, specifically, the key issues considered by the relevant stakeholders during the development and approval process. 
  • Sales and business development experience, having held a leading role in growing the revenue of a business which included the creation and launch of new products and services. 
  • Have planned, lead and prioritised projects effectively to ensure that business-critical initiatives were delivered on time and to an acceptable return on investment. 
  • Proven experience in dealing with customers/users and establishing long term client relationships demonstrating the use of excellent inter-personal skills. 
  • Strong working experience of building product or service solutions, taking those to market and working with frontline teams to build enthusiasm before launch. 
  • Highly output orientated with excellent leadership skills. 
  • Strong data analysis skills and expertise in data driven decision making.
