Other rights
MCPS offer licenses for the use of Musical Works, on behalf of music publishers - a licence for the use of the Sound Recording must also be sought from the company that owns the sound recording – usually a record company. Please contact Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) in order to establish who owns the Sound Recording that you would like to use.
Application
Email applications@mcps.co.uk and tell us about the track you would like to use, and how you wish to use it.
If we do have the mandate to license, we will contact you in order to establish some further details.
Mandate approval process
We contact the publisher with details of your request, including the fee that we think is appropriate
The publisher will either approve or reject the use of their music in your production
We inform you if your request has been successful, and confirm the licence fee
On your instruction, we will raise an invoice with accompanying terms and conditions which, once paid, become your valid licence
If we don’t have the mandate to license, we will provide you with the contact information of the copyright owner of the tracks(s) you would like to use, so you can request the permission you need directly.
Rates and costs
All rates are negotiated on a case by case basis. For Premium products this is usually at around 5p per song, multiplied by the number of units manufactured with a minimum fee of £200 per song.
Corporate and educational productions – what are they?
A Corporate Production is used in internal or external corporate communications. This could be, for example, a promotional DVD to send to clients explaining what their company does, or an internal training or educational DVD. An Educational Production is used by schools, local councils, health authorities and other public services in the UK in internal or external communications.
Email applications@mcps.co.uk and tell us about the track you would like to use, and how you wish to use it.
