Digital Covermounts : Trial, non-precedential short term licence for Music promotions
The agreed rate position for digital music covermounts will run until the end of 2011. This is a short-term trial rate which is valued at 50% of the AP7 and AP7N licensing schemes offered by MCPS, non-precedential.

 

 
 

The same methodology for calculating rates under AP7 and AP7N is used to calculate fees for digital music covermounts and then the resulting value is halved. By way of example, the following demonstrates this calculation:

 Digital Covermount Fee:

Base Prices for Digital Covermounts 

50% of magazine cover price (subject to a minimum of £1.65 even if this sum is not equal to 50% of the cover price).

50% of newspaper cover price (subject to a minimum of £1.10 even if this sum is not equal to 50% of the cover price).

Track Limit

The upper track limit is 15. The Base Price is uplifted by the royalty rate (6.5%) for each track over the 15.

A separate licensing approach is used for general entertainment digital covermounts.

Digital Covermounts : Trial, non-precedential short term licence for General Entertainment promotions

The agreed rate position for digital covermounts will run until the 31 January 2012 for general entertainment promotions.

This is a short-term non-precedential trial rate which is valued at 50% of the GI7 and GI7N licensing schemes offered by MCPS.

The same methodology for calculating rates under GI7 and GI7N is used to calculate fees for digital covermounts and then the resulting value is halved. By way of example, the following demonstrates this calculation:

 

Magazine GI7 cost breakdown 
Repertoire works*  0.375p per track x circulation 
Commissioned† less than 50%  0.75p x circulation
Commissioned greater than 50% 1.5p x circulation
Digital Covermount Fee : 50% of final GI7 cost

Newspaper GI7N cost breakdown 
Repertoire works*  0.25p per track x circulation 
Commissioned† <50% 0.5p x circulation
Commissioned >50% 1p x circulation
Digital Covermount Fee : 50% of final GI7N cost

 
* A Musical Work, the copyright in which is owned or controlled in the United Kingdom by MCPS (or an MCPS member or an affiliated society or an affiliated society member).

† A Musical Work, specially and expressly commissioned from composer/writer members of MCPS for inclusion in the specific audio-visual material contained on a particular Product.
