Exhibitions
Tariff 'X' applies to trade fairs and similar commercial exhibitions. Please note that music performances at cafés, restaurants and bars within the exhibition centre and cultural exhibitions at museums and art galleries are excluded from this tariff and are separately chargeable under the appropriate PRS for Music tariff.
Mobile Businesses and Limited Uses
Effective from 1 November 2009 new Tariff 'ML' applies to home/mobile businesses and individuals playing music in a variety of locations that should not otherwise be licensed to the proprietor of the premises. It brings together tariffs 'DJ', 'HB' and 'MO' and introduces new rates for mobile businesses.
Tariff ‘ML’ does not apply to the use of music with mobile phones.
It is for:
- Personal trainers, mobile beauty/complementary therapists
- Children’s entertainers
- Mobile trainers and mobile sales presenters and business trainers
- Market stalls
- Mobile aerobic/dance instructors
- Mobile DJs & karaoke operators (previously Tariff 'DJ')
- Amateur, non-profit making, music clubs meeting in a room or hall and performing live music for their own entertainment
- Amateur mobile mechanical organ owners (previously Tariff 'MO')
- Handbell ringing teams (previously Tariff 'HB')
Tariff 'ML' cannot be applied to premises and events where the proprietor or organiser needs a licence under other PRS for Music tariffs to play our copyright music. These include where music is to be used at a permanent gym/leisure centre/dance school or similar premises, or at events held in discotheques/nightclubs/other clubs/pubs or similar venues.

Transport
Aircraft
PRS for Music licenses airline companies’ British registered aircraft, wherever they happen to be in the world, for the following uses of copyright music:
- boarding and disembarkation music
- in-flight entertainment music (whether audio or audio-visual).
In PRS for Music’s Tariff ‘AC’ there are rates according to the number of passengers carried, or who take up the option of music, respectively.
Other collecting societies around the world license the use of music on board aircraft registered in their particular country.

Motor vehicles
PRS for Music make a charge for our licence where music is played in vehicles in which, or from which, a service is provided. This includes, but is not limited to, taxis, minicabs and chauffeur-driven cars, buses, coaches, minibuses, election vehicles, ice cream vans and food vans, advertising vans and similar vehicles. Charges in Tariff ‘MV’ are based on the type of device used (TV, radio, CD, tape, video player) and the seating capacity (including driver) of each vehicle.
There are a number of circumstances where PRS for Music chooses not to charge a licence fee, at its discretion. If you think you might not need to pay a licence fee, please contact us to ensure that you are covered by our charging policies. Circumstances where we choose not to make a charge for our licence include:
- Company cars and vans (work vehicles) used purely by employees to travel from one location to another. This includes delivery vehicles.
- Where the vehicle normally only carries the driver and music is only audible inside the vehicle.
- Where music is only audible to the driver (or clearly intended to be audible only to the driver.

Passenger vessels
Tariff ‘PV’ applies to a range of British vessels on which music is performed:
- cruise liners and other ocean or sea-going vessels
- local ferries, lake, river and pleasure craft
- all other vessels
The charging structure breaks down according to the nature and extent of music use, such as: featured live music; disco and karaoke sessions; aerobics, keep-fit and dancing classes; video/film shows, jukeboxes and background music in various parts of a vessel.

Trains & Railway Stations
Tariff ‘TR’ (Tariff ‘TR’ October 2010)applies to the use of our music in train carriages (including those with news systems) and railway stations (over concourses and platforms) as background music. The tariff does not apply to live music, nor to music in associated shops, bars, cafés, restaurants and similar outlets. These uses are assessed under other PRS for Music tariffs.
