You may not be aware that to use music in your business you need a licence. A Music Licence from PRS for Music gives you the legal right to play the songs you want – from over 10 million tracks.

It’s quick and easy to get a licence from us and we’ll make the process as simple as possible for you. And because we represent music creators, composers and publishers, we ensure that 90p in every pound goes to them - so they can keep on creating.

Why do you need a Music Licence?

If you play music in your business or want to include it in your product you need clearance to do so from the owners of that music. PRS for Music and MCPS represent the owners and can get you the clearances you need. We are a not-for-profit organisation, enabling you access to the world's music in the most efficient way.

How much will a Music Licence cost?

The cost of a Music Licence can depend on various factors:

• The type of premises
• The size of premises
• The nature and extent to which music is used

We have over 40 tariffs covering everything from music in shops to music on hold, to ensure a fair charge for your music use.

Arranging a PPL licence

We are currently working with PPL to find ways to improve the music licensing process. You may have received a letter advising you that we can arrange a PPL licence for you, at the same time as setting up your licence with PRS for Music.

This is part of a limited trial. We cannot arrange a PPL licence for you unless you have been contacted as part of this trial. PRS for Music and PPL are separate organisations and separate licences are required from both organisations.
